Joe Grandy is serving his first term as Washington County's chief financial officer - the primary responsibility of the County Mayor. Grandy was elected in August, 2018.
The County Mayor is chief financial officer of the county. In the case of Washington County, which has grown to a population of more than 120,000, this entails managing a general fund budget exceeding $60 million.
The County Mayor also has care and custody of all county property. He has the power to appoint department heads, subject to confirmation by the County Commission. The Mayor serves terms of four years.
His staff is paid out of the general fund, and includes the purchasing, accounts and finance and communications departments.
