Washington County, Tennessee has adopted and is enforcing the 2018 International Residential Code.

The purpose of this code is to provide minimum requirements to safeguard the:

  • Health and General Welfare Through Affordability
  • Light and Ventilation
  • Means of Egress Facilities
  • Public Safety
  • Safety to Life and Property from Fire and Other Hazards Attributed to the Built Environment
  • Sanitation
  • Stability
  • Structural Strength

Inspections

The following inspections are performed by the County Building Inspector:

  • Footer
  • Slab (if applicable)
  • Framing
  • Rough-In Plumbing
  • Rough-In Mechanical
  • Insulation
  • Plumbing
  • Mechanical
  • Final

Certificate of Occupancy

All applicable inspections must be completed prior to the issuance of a Certificate of Occupancy. A Certificate of Occupancy must be obtained prior to the occupancy of the structure.
